Note: Parents must attend at least 8 classes to get a certificate from
the society. Parents of existing students must attend at least 8 classes. If fail
to do so, the student's daily classes will be discontinued.
2014 Volunteer Training
The purpose of this training is to equip the public who are interested to become
a volunteer in Hua Ming. At the same time, we also hope that such training can increase
public awareness and understanding of autism. This training will give the public
the concept of voluntary work, basic knowledge of autism, as well as simple skills
on how to interact with autistic children. The following are details of the volunteer
training:

Main speaker: Ms. Chan Shiu Sum
Ms. Chan Shiu Sum is currently the principal of House of Star, the education
centre formed by PPLKA Hua Ming.
After completing her Bachelor鈥檚 degree in Psychology at University of York in
the UK, she started her work as a special education teacher in House of Star. Later
she decided to further study in Master in Special Needs at University of Nottingham,
UK. After completing her Master, she decided to come back and help children with
autism in Malaysia.
Ms. Chan has working experience in different country. She is trained in Beijing
and Taipei for two months. She also volunteered in an Autistic school as a teacher
assistant while studying in Nottingham, UK. She has been working with children with
autism for the past 10 years.
Ms. Chan also gives talks and training to parents, kindergarten and primary school
teachers and the public. She was one of the speakers who gave talk around the country
when NASOM (National Autism Society) started the road show to raise public awareness
in Autism.
