Time : Once a month on Saturday 9am-12pm (except Feb and Dec)
Medium of instruction : Mandarin
Fees : Non-member: RM800
Member: RM500

  1. Family adaptation: Parents and siblings (talk given by counselor)
  2. Introduction to Autism, importance of home training & future planning.
  3. Behaviour Management (ABA)
  4. Discrete Trial Training (ABA)
  5. Structured teaching - TEACCH
  6. Child Development & areas of learning (1)
  7. Child Development & areas of learning (2)
  8. Sensory Integration & occupational therapy ( talk given by OT, translated to Mandarin)
  9. Teaching Speech and Communication
  10. Other therapies and intervention

 Note: Parents must attend at least 8 classes to get a certificate from the society. Parents of existing students must attend at least 8 classes. If fail to do so, the student's daily classes will be discontinued.

 

2014 Volunteer Training

 

The purpose of this training is to equip the public who are interested to become a volunteer in Hua Ming. At the same time, we also hope that such training can increase public awareness and understanding of autism. This training will give the public the concept of voluntary work, basic knowledge of autism, as well as simple skills on how to interact with autistic children. The following are details of the volunteer training:

Date : 27-9-2014 (Saturday)
Time : 9.30am - 4.30pm
Location : Hua Ming Autism Society activity centre
Speaker : Ms. Chan Shiu Sum (Principal)
Target participants : public who are interested in becoming a volunteer for Hua Ming
Fees : RM5 (refreshments)
Closing Date : 24-9-2014 (Wednesday)

Note: This training is for volunteers, it is not suitable for parents. Kindly call or email us to register before the closing date.

Main speaker: Ms. Chan Shiu Sum

Ms. Chan Shiu Sum is currently the principal of House of Star, the education centre formed by PPLKA Hua Ming.

After completing her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at University of York in the UK, she started her work as a special education teacher in House of Star. Later she decided to further study in Master in Special Needs at University of Nottingham, UK. After completing her Master, she decided to come back and help children with autism in Malaysia.

Ms. Chan has working experience in different country. She is trained in Beijing and Taipei for two months. She also volunteered in an Autistic school as a teacher assistant while studying in Nottingham, UK. She has been working with children with autism for the past 10 years.

Ms. Chan also gives talks and training to parents, kindergarten and primary school teachers and the public. She was one of the speakers who gave talk around the country when NASOM (National Autism Society) started the road show to raise public awareness in Autism.
